St Paul's Newsletter: Thursday, 4 May 2023
2023 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 2, Week 2
From the Principal
Dear Families,
At this week's Prayer Gathering Assembly, we discussed the school value of WISDOM. We value wisdom at St Paul’s, but some of the students ask us, what do we actually mean by wisdom?
At St Pauls, we value learning from experience. We grow in wisdom when we try new things and when we challenge ourselves. We also grow in wisdom when we make a choice, but it doesn’t work out as we might have hoped or thought.
One of the mottos that I use in my work and in my life is, “If you don’t make a mistake, you don’t make a discovery”. We grow in wisdom when we step out of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves.
The St Paul's staff are always challenging and encouraging our students to keep trying new things, to keep learning from experiences and keep making discoveries. This is the value of wisdom in action.
2023 ART SHOW: Wednesday 31 May, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
This is promising to be a fun evening in which to celebrate the artwork that has been completed by our children. Even staff members have completed a canvas for the evening – How do you think you will go at matching the artwork to the staff member? There will also be six very special art pieces put up for auction, with each piece collectively completed by the children from each class.
As the Art Show is a special school event in which to showcase the children’s skills, we anticipate that every family will take the opportunity to attend the evening. Instead of booking tickets for the Art Show, we will be asking for a gold coin donation per person as an entry fee. An Operoo eForm will soon be sent, with further details.
Friday 12 May: Art Show Free Dress Day!
Students are invited to wear free dress and bring in/donate an art item which will be used to create hampers. We are conscious of cost of living pressures, and we know how well-supported our Country Fair was, so if a child does not have an item or gold coin but wears free dress, that is totally fine we will not be asking the children. Please see below from Mrs Curwood.
Mother’s Day - Save the date!! Friday 12 May
We are looking forward to celebrating Mother's Day! Our Parents and Friends are busily preparing a lovely morning. On Friday 12 May we are inviting all Mum’s to join their children at school from 8am - 8:45am for a classroom visit and special breakfast. Our Mother’s Day stall will follow this event as planned.
Mother's Day breakfast orders must be placed on CDFPay.
Please see flyer in the School Office section below.
Wellbeing: Parent Session
Sarah Kleverkamp, our Student Wellbeing Leader, along with Paula Hogan, Learning Support Officer and Counsellor, are offering a Wellbeing Parent Session, on Monday 15 May. This session will include understanding anxiety, signs, responses, strategies, resources and more. The session will be a relaxed format, where parents can enjoy a cuppa and learn together. An Operoo eForm has been sent to all families for planning purposes.
Mater Christi & St Josephs - 'Taster Sessions' for Year 4 students
Our Year 4 students were invited to attend Mater Christi (girls) and St Joseph's (boys) this morning. This was a great opportunity to get a taste of learning in a secondary school. We thank Jo McIntosh and Elizabeth Van Graas for accompanying the students.
Government Secondary School Applications
The Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Information Pack 2023-24 is now available for parents wishing to enrol their child into a Government Secondary School. Please refer to the Operoo notice sent to Year 6 parents on Monday 1 May which outlines the process and includes a link to an information and enrolment pack.
Coughs, Colds, Covid and Wintery Weather
The latest MACS COVID Directives for schools is that: “Students who report a positive result are recommended to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.” Isolation is recommended based upon the safety of other students and staff. The MACS directives are from February 2023 and these may change/be upgraded as we move into winter.
It is a respectful request that, if your child displays symptoms of a cold, or any illness for that matter, please keep them home. Obviously the more we keep illness out of the school, the more likely we will keep St Paul's families, students and staff healthy, ensuring continuity of learning in our classrooms
School Photos
School Photos will be taken this Monday 8 May. It is vital that students are at school no later than 8:45am, as we will begin organising grades for photos to begin at 8:55am (or as soon as the bus arrives and students have unpacked!). Students are required to wear winter uniform, thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Watt
