St Paul's Newsletter: Thursday, 25 August 2022
2022 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 3, Week 7
From the Principal
Dear Families,
We are very much looking forward to next Thursday when we perform our school musical, "Wonder in Aliceland". There is nothing like a major school event such as our musical to inject energy, enthusiasm and connectedness right throughout our community. We have been so very impressed with the way students parents and staff are all working together to make Wonder in Aliceland come alive, and we are really looking forward to seeing the culmination of all this hard work next Thursday 1 September.
All families have received an Operoo eForm that outlines the required information for the day. We will also send communications and reminders next week!
Please note: there is no bus travel, no before-school care, and no after-school care, available on the day of our production (1 September). Students need to be driven directly to Burrinja by 8:45am and collected after the matinee show at 3:00pm.
Further to this, I just wish to clarify expectations for students and stage make-up. We request that students have a basic foundation applied to their face in the morning before arriving at Burrinja. Also, if possible, please apply a small amount of lipstick. This will be a help to the staff and volunteers. We do know that throughout the day the make-up may come off and we will touch it up as the day goes on when possible/necessary.
After the matinee show, when students return home, please feed them their dinner, re-apply their make up and bring them back to Burrinja according to the times in the Operoo eForm.
Due to the fact that it is ‘Musical Week’ next week, there will be no newsletter sent out. Our next newsletter will be in two weeks from today - Thursday 8 September. If any urgent communications are required before 8 September, we will email families directly.
Ticket sales will re-open tomorrow: Friday 26 August, at 11:00am.
What do we wear?
Students will need to wear their Sport Uniform to Burrinja on the day. Costumes will be with the teachers.
At the end of the Matinee, students will return home in their base costumes. Costume props, such as cards and flower headwear, and elaborate lead role costumes will remain at Burrinja to use in the evening performance.
What do we bring?
FOOD
Students will need to bring their snacks, drink bottle and lunch, in a named bag, with them on the day.
BELONGINGS
Students will not be on the stage for the entire duration of the show, only at certain times. When they are not on stage students are backstage being supervised by school staff. We ask that students bring a colouring or puzzle book and their pencil case with them.
No electronics are permitted under any circumstances - schools have had issues in the past with damaged or lost electronics so please do not send any devices, iPads or iPods, or any other electronic equipment to the performance day with the children.
Named bags will be very important!
PHOTOGRAPHY
Use of recording devices of any kind (including still photography and video cameras, audio tape recorders, digital photo capture devices and mobile telephones) by non-authorised people is prohibited in both performances.
The evening performance will be recorded. Photographs from the show will be made available to our families.
Please note: SOCIAL MEDIA - There are families at St Paul's that do not use social media and do not consent for images of their children to be uploaded to social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc). Please keep this in mind when taking/accessing photos of students.
LATE NIGHT FOR OUR FAMILY! What do we do on Friday?
The production should finish around 9pm on Thursday, but we do have acknowledgements at the end, and we will ensure that students are returned to their parents safely. This will all take time, and we know it will be a late night, therefore on Friday 2 September parents have the following options:
- Students arrive at school for the normal start time of 8:45am
- Students arrive at school at 11:00am
- Although the school would encourage/expect all students to attend as normal, parents will decide whether to send their child to school or allow a recovery day - teachers will require a written absence note if your child is absent.
It is important that parents choose to either bring their child to school by 8:45am or wait until 11:00am. This is so that we can manage late arrivals coming in through the office and into the classrooms.
We respectfully request that students are not arriving at various times throughout Friday morning, it is either 8:45am or 11:00am, and we thank you for your understanding.
AQUANATION: Swimming Excursion
At St Paul's we believe the best way to teach water safety is through a practical program.
On Tuesday 13 September all St Paul's students will travel to Aquanation, corner Greenwood Ave and Reilly St, Ringwood, for a practical and engaging water safety program.
Fully qualified swimming instructors will be teaching students in small groups.
Students will travel by bus to Aquauanation with their teachers and available support staff.
Arrangements for Years Prep-3 students are as follows:
The Year Prep-3 students are placed into groups. The groups move through 4 activities over a 2 hour swimming session, from 12:00pm - 2:00pm.
Arrangements for Years 4-6 students are as follows:
The Year 4-6 students are placed into groups. The groups move through 4 activities over a 2 hour swimming session, from 9:30am - 11:30am.
Year 4-6 students will need to be at school earlier than normal due to the 9:30am start at Aquanation. We understand this may cause inconvenience for some families, we thank you for your understanding and support.
Year 4-6 students need to arrive at school by 8:30am on Tuesday 13 September. The Year 4-6 bus departs St Paul's for Aquanation at 8:40am.
Book Week!!
It was great to see so many people celebrating book week last Monday by dressing up in free dress or as their favourite book character. On our book week dress-up day we would normally have had a parade of some description however due to several other commitments on the day we decided to put together an "online parade" where we took photos of students in their costumes. The link to our online Book Week parade is below and we hope you enjoy it:

World of Maths
We are looking forward to welcoming the team from World of Maths on Monday 12 September. World of maths is an incursion that visits schools with interactive hands-on maths activities. The students always enjoy the world of maths session and we look forward to the visit.
From Our P&F: FRIDAY 26TH AUGUST
On Friday 26th August, our P&F are hosting a FATHER’S DAY STALL.
On the day, students can buy gifts for Dad, Grandpas, Uncles and special role models in their lives! Our P&F set up a Father's Day Stall and the students are escorted in class groups to visit the stall. We begin with senior students who collect their younger siblings on the way so we don't double up on the same gift. Gifts range from $1 - $10. Children can bring cash into school on Friday 26th August.
We are grateful to our parent volunteers for organising this event.
We are looking forward to a terrific morning and we wish all of our families a Happy Father's Day on Sunday 4th September.

Parent Seminar - Mount Lilydale Mercy College
We all know that parenting a teen would be easier if they came with a handbook. An outline of the amazing years of adolescence and how to handle the ups and downs. Maybe you have made it through one teens journey and are wondering why the next one is proving so challenging. Has COVID and lockdown made your previous plan obsolete? Come along and hear Andrew Lines, creator of The Rite Journey, talk about raising responsible, resilient, respectful, resourceful and reflective Gen Z young adults.
In reflecting on his own parenting Andrew writes:
“An issue for me in my parenting has been there’s very little practical education or direction as to the best way to do this - to be parenting with the long term goal in mind. Most of us are so busy, parenting moment by moment, responding to the issues as they arrive without a game plan of what we hope to create. It was the same for me initially, I had no real goal as to what I was aiming for and certainly no plan. “
Andrew's Parenting Plan evening is free to all parents within our community and feeder school network so please gather other parents of teens, or soon to be teens, and come along on Tuesday 30 August at 7.30pm. We would appreciate you indicating attendance by clicking on the link below.

Feel supported and encouraged as you guide your child through adolescence into adulthood.
