2022 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 3, Week 2
From the Principal
Dear Families,
It has been great to be able to plan community events this year and I wish to thank Tash K and our Parents and Friends committee for all of the work that went into last Friday’s disco. We also thank our parent helpers and the staff who volunteered Friday night to supervise. Next Thursday 28 July we have our Grandparents & Special Persons Day to look forward to, and there is lots of planning happening behind the scenes to ensure that a lovely morning will be had by all that attend.

Car Park - Drop Off Zone
Recently I have had some feedback around our school car park and particularly the use of the drop-off zone. Lately, we have seen a growing line of traffic on Moores Rd during morning drop-off time. To ensure the morning drop-off is as efficient as possible each day, please note:
- Please do not leave cars unattended in the drop off zone.
- The drop-off zone is set up for parents/guardians to pull the car in, say goodbye to children, and promptly keep moving.
- We should be in the drop-off zone for a maximum 2-3 minutes.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Homework
As part of our ongoing school improvement work, the school staff and School Advisory Council have been discussing our approaches to homework.
It is essential that we gather the thoughts and opinions of parents. We would be grateful if parents could answer the questions in our survey by 3:00pm Friday 29 July.

Covid-19 July 21 Update
Face masks
It is strongly recommended by the Department of Health that face masks are worn in indoor settings, with face masks mandatory for those aged eight and over who are household contacts and attending school.
In practice, this means that the Victorian Government is asking that, through to the end of winter, students aged eight and over and staff wear masks when in class, except where removing a mask is necessary for clear communication or when a particular activity requires the removal of a mask.
Masks are not required to be worn outdoors, but can be worn when physical distancing is not possible.
Schools are not required or expected to sanction students or staff who do not meet this expectation, but are asked to communicate this expectation to the whole school community and seek support for this request.
Reduction of testing and isolation exemption period
The period of time when someone is considered a recently confirmed case, and therefore exempt from testing and isolation requirements, has been reduced from the previous 12 weeks to four weeks.
This means that staff and students who are household contacts of people with COVID-19 are not exempt from the testing and isolation requirements after four weeks of completing isolation with COVID-19. Previously, this period was 12 weeks.
A student or staff member who is a household contact and wishes to attend school must take five RATs over seven days and receive negative test results, and wear a face mask (if over eight years old) in indoor spaces. This applies from four weeks after the end of an isolation period when they were a case.
Families and staff will also have to report being a household contact to the school after this four-week period.
OSHClub Possible Daycare - SCHOOL CLOSURE DAYS SURVEY
St Paul's and Monbulk Primary School have worked hard to strengthen our relationship, both with one another and with OSHClub. The working relationship between the three organisations goes from strength to strength and this is shown in the number of students that are enrolled in the program. St Paul's will be closed to students, for staff professional learning (PL), on the following dates:
- Thursday 15 September
- Friday 16 September
- Monday 31 October (Melbourne Cup Eve)
- ***Monday 5 December (new)
Regarding childcare on those closure days, we have been in contact with Monbulk OSHClub.
- Unfortunately, we can't offer OSHClub on Monday 31 October.
- We may be in a position to be able to offer an OSHClub program on 15 and 16 September, but this depends on OSHClub's ability to staff the service according to numbers as well as secure an appropriate location as Monbulk PS will be open on those days.
- On Monday 5 December Monbulk PS have a Closure Day also, and both schools are keen to run OSHClub on the day for families looking for childcare.
There is no guarantee at this time that it will be viable for OSHClub to offer one day programs on those closure days, but it is being considered.
In order to measure the viability and get staff/location organised, as well as give parents enough notice, we ask that our families indicate whether or not they would use OSHClub on one or both of those days.
SURVEY: If OSHClub was available on September 15, September 16 and/or December 5, please CLICK HERE to indicate your interest in booking.
We need a response by 4:00 pm Monday 25 July, thanks.
Warm regards,
Michael Watt
