St Paul's Newsletter: Thursday, 14 July 2022
2022 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 3, Week 1
From the Principal
Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 3. We have a lot to look forward to this term, beginning with our School Disco tomorrow night, from 6:00-8:00pm.
There is a plethora of inter-school sport for our senior students this term, which began yesterday at the inter-school netball competition. Grandparents and Special Person's Day will be held on Thursday 28 July and we have our First Eucharist on Sunday August 14. The Book Fair is back from August 15-17.
Our whole school musical will be held on Thursday 1 September, and we are really excited to be back on stage after lockdowns put a stop to our last production. Information about costumes will be communicated in due course. Tickets will soon go on sale for "Wonder in Aliceland" and a reminder that ALL students are required for the school musical.
SAVE THE DATE: “WONDER IN ALICELAND” - FULL SCHOOL MUSICAL!
THURSDAY 1 SEPTEMBER - Burrinja Cultural Centre
The students of St Paul's have begun preparing "Wonder in Aliceland", our full school musical for 2022. All students will be involved, and therefore we expect all students to attend.
St Paul's Disco: Friday 15 July 6:00 - 8:00pm
The St Paul's School Disco will be hosted by the great people at "Bop Til You Drop"! You may remember "Bop Til You Drop" from last year's virtual disco ... the team of DJ's at "Bop Til You Drop" really get the party going!
Tickets can still be purchased via CDFPay.
The event is for St Paul's students only.
We thank Tash K and our P&F Committee for organising our Disco.
NAIDOC Week
In 2022, NAIDOC week was held over the Victorian school holidays: Sunday 3 July - Sunday 10 July.
The acronym NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. It celebrates Aboriginal people’s history, culture and achievements and is a great opportunity to learn about their rich culture. It is a time of celebration and connection between all peoples.
"The NAIDOC Week theme for 2022 – Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! – encourages all of us to champion and drive institutional, structural, and collaborative change while also acknowledging and celebrating those who for generations have driven positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
-JODY BROUN, CEO, NATIONAL INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIANS AGENCY
First Nations peoples have a proud history of getting up, standing up, and showing up, and they continue to show up today. There are many stories of First Nations peoples, who have done great things, bringing about equality and being great models for others, but these stories have not always been highlighted throughout our history. NAIDOC Week helps us to be more aware of all aspects of Australia's history.
Inter-School Sport - Netball
Our netball team represented St Paul's with aplomb yesterday at the Inter-School Netball up at the Monbulk Netball Courts. We say a huge thanks to Emma-lee Curwood for organising this opportunity for the team. We also thank Cara Kirby for coaching on the day and Kim Dunstan for coaching and training the girls in the lead up.
Save the Date: Grandparents and Special Person's Day - Thursday 28 July
‘Grandparents' and Special Person’s Day’ will be held on Thursday 28 July. We warmly invite either the grandparents of the children, or other special persons in their lives, to come to the school for the morning. The day will commence at 9am with the children and guests playing games and dancing, followed by a very special Mass at 10:15am celebrating the place of these important people in the children’s lives. The children will be sorted according to their family groups.
Following the activities and Mass, our special guests are warmly invited to stay on for morning tea.
What a sensational day it will be!
Covid-19 July Update
Rapid antigen tests − Terms 3 and 4
The Victorian Government has determined the rapid antigen test (RAT) distribution strategy for Terms 3 and 4. Schools will receive up to three deliveries of RATs each in Terms 3 and 4.
St Paul's will be able to provide these RATs to parents/carers, staff or students on request, as the previous settings that required weekly or daily testing of students and staff have ceased.
We expect we will receive their first delivery of RATs by Friday 29 July 2022.
Community Directory
The response from the community has been wonderful to the call for support from our Year 4, 5 & 6 students in reaching their goal of $10,000 to build a library for a school in Tramri, Pakistan. Local businesses were offered advertising opportunities in our school newsletter in exchange for donations towards the project.
We gratefully thank those businesses who opted in and ask that you please take a moment to browse our new Community Directory further in this newsletter and consider supporting some of the local business who support our school.
Training Like a Vixen - we had a great day!
Condolences
As emailed last week, our deepest condolences are extended to Tameka Groen and her family (Caleb in Year 6) on the sudden passing of her father, Piet. Piet's funeral was held today at St Thomas More's Church. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.
Additional Pupil Free Day - SCHOOL CLOSURE DAYS
At St Paul's we keep our School Closure Days to a minimum, but they are a necessary element of the education industry. Because professional learning remains significant to delivering improved educational outcomes and maintaining staff engagement, late in Term 3 the MACS Executive Leadership Team approved an additional pupil-free day for MACS Primary Schools. Furthermore, to maintain professional registration, teachers must engage in professional learning for a minimum of 20 hours per year.
St Paul's will be closed to students, for staff professional learning (PL), on the following dates:
- Thursday 15 September - Literacy PL
- Friday 16 September - Literacy PL
- Monday 31 October (Melbourne Cup Eve) - Reporting and Assessment
- ***Monday 5 December (new) - 2023 Pedagogical Framework PL
Term 3 concludes for students on Wednesday 14 September. School concludes for the 2022 school year on Friday 16 December.
Warm regards,
Michael Watt
