2022 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 2, Week 8
From the Principal
Dear Families,
The Sacrament of First Reconciliation was held last Tuesday 14 June. We had seven students receiving this Sacrament this year. The Catholic Church requires that a child receives the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving the Sacrament of First Eucharist.
Reconciliation is the act of re-establishing friendship between God and a human being, or between two people. This Sacrament is designed to restore one's relationship with God. Also, since all Christians are connected together through the body of Christ this Sacrament reconciles one with the Church.
As members of the Catholic Church, we believe it is important that a child's image of God remains a loving God and that the experience of reconciliation be a positive experience where the child knows that he or she is greatly loved by God and valued by the Church community. We thank the families, Cathie Vermeer, Julie Dietrich and Irene Haritos for preparing these young people for this special occasion.
Congratulations:
- Isabelle
- Alex
- Ben
- Sarah
- Heidi
- Annalise
- Lexi
Regional Cross Country - Congratulations!
Congratulations to Evie on her terrific efforts at last Tuesday’s Regional Cross Country event at Yarra Glen Racecourse. Evie represented our entire Eastern Region, what a magnificent achievement. Tom also won through to Regionals, but was unfortunately unwell on the day. There were many state and national champions running on the day. Well done to both of our students on achieving such a high level of competition.
Catholic School Parents Victoria (CSPV)
CSPV want to find out about parents’ attitudes to swimming lessons via a CECV survey :
https://www.surveymonkey.com/
The St Paul's school community are encouraged to complete the survey at the link above so that CSPV can build up an accurate picture of parents’ attitudes, knowledge and needs around swimming and water safety education.
Important School Car Park Update
Please remember that children and adults are on the move through car parks - ensure cars are moving at walking pace.
Please keep your children with you/next to you at all times when moving to your car after school.
Car Park Safety
The importance of observing the parking and traffic regulations that are in place for the school car park cannot be over-emphasised. These regulations exist to ensure the safety of all children and adults within the car park area.
The asphalt car park (basketball court) is the preferred car park of use by parents. The car park at the front of the school, right outside the administration office, is primarily designed for staff use and visitors throughout the school day. It is preferred that parents not use this car park at pick up times.
The following rules are extremely important:
- Observe correct procedures for using the car park as stipulated in the plan below
- Driving speed inside the school grounds is to be that of walking pace
Children, regardless of age, must always be accompanied by an adult when walking through the car park to the school or vice versa (in other words, hold the hands of young children, older children should never be more than 1 metre away from an adult.)
Members of our community have reported seeing students running away from parents after school and, at times, moving between cars. At the conclusion of the school day, when children have been collected from their classroom, they should never be allowed to go to their vehicle unaccompanied by an adult, regardless of their age.
This is extremely concerning, and we remind parents to keep their children right next to them at all times when walking to and from your parked car.
If you have young children or toddlers, never let them walk around or behind parked vehicles. They should remain next to you at all times.
FRONT OF SCHOOL/ADMINISTRATION CAR PARK:
While the asphalt car park is the preferred car park of use, some parents require the staff/parish car park when visiting during school hours. Should this be the case, the same rules apply with the addition of the following:
- Vehicle traffic flow is one direction only. Cars should enter the car park from Moores Rd and exit via Prices Rd
- Driving speed = walking pace
Vehicles must always reverse park carefully
Children, regardless of age, must be accompanied by an adult. Children are never to walk through the car park by themselves
If the car parks are full, please do not park in the driveways. Cars will have to be parked safely in Moores Rd, Prices or Mt Pleasant Roads, giving due consideration to the residents in the area and the school bus.
Please also note that our school bus collects children from the Prices Rd driveway and we are walking children to the bus at 3:00pm.
Cars must not be moving through the car park while children are approaching the bus.
When using one of the school car parks it is important to remember that the safety of our children and adults is of utmost importance. A lapse in concentration or disregard for the rules can be a costly mistake that can haunt us for the rest of our lives.
For the safety of everyone, particularly the children, we must work together and follow these rules. Complacency is a recipe for an accident.

Whole School Excursion: Train Like a Vixen
We are very excited about our Whole School Excursion to "Train Like a Vixen" tomorrow. This will be a fantastic experience for our students. Thanks to Emma-lee Curwood and all of the classroom teachers for organising this experience.
Being a Whole School event, all teaching staff, as well as most of our support staff, are attending. This means we do not require parent assistance, however, we are always very grateful to those parents that offered to assist - thank you!
Please note the following last-minute reminders:
- What to bring: Drink bottle, snacks and lunch. Students can also bring a sweat towel if they wish.
- What to wear: Sports Uniform with comfy, supportive runners.
- Food: Lunch and snacks must be brought. There will be an allocated morning tea & lunchtime, depending on the length of the clinic.
Please note, that no nuts or nut products are to be brought and sharing of food is strictly prohibited.
- COVID-19: With the growing number of cases in Victoria, the venue has respectfully requested to ask if your child wakes up and is not well or has symptoms, please keep them at home.
- Photo consent: The venue will have a photographer coming out for an hour on Friday to capture some photos. Students that do not have parent consent will be given a wristband to indicate this.
Time of departure: 8:50am - don't be late for school tomorrow!

Warm regards,
