2022 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 1, Week 9
From the Principal
Dear Families,
As we move through Lent towards Easter, it is a time to stop and reflect on the sacrifice made by Jesus as he drew closer to his crucifixion and death, which he knew lay ahead of him. It is an amazing thing to comprehend…knowing your fate, to die for the sins of humanity so that people could spend eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven.
When I think of the Easter story I often think of what Jesus endured for others. It was extraordinary! For me, the message is that if Jesus can go through all of that for the sake of others, then using that as an example, I can get through any challenge. I am grateful that the challenges I have in my life are almost always quite minor, in comparison to what others go through each day.
What a gift Jesus gave… what a sacrifice he made! I hope you are finding this Lenten season spiritually nourishing and are taking every opportunity to stop and reflect, to stop and pray for everything we have to be grateful for.
Prayer Gathering: Stations of the Cross
This Monday at 2:10pm we will hold our final Prayer Gathering Assembly for Term 1. The Prayer will be lead by our SRC students and will focus on the Stations of the Cross. We will stream over Zoom and a link will be sent to parents on Monday.
A note from our Year 4/5 and 5/6 students:
Easter Raffle
With only two weeks of Term 1 left we are starting to feel pretty egg-cited about Easter!
Over the next week the 4/5/6 students will be selling raffle tickets at drop-off and pick-up time…this is your chance to win an EGGSTRAVAGANT Easter hamper choc full of yummy treats and fun things to do over the holidays!
There are 6 hampers to win, one for each class and one for any adults who would like to purchase tickets…that means each class is guaranteed a winner! Tickets will be 50 cents each or 3 for $1. All money raised from the raffle will be donated to help build a library in Tramri, Pakistan.
Thank you for your support
Confirmation Family Workshop
This Tuesday at 3:30pm Irene Haritos will lead our Confirmation Family Workshop. The workshop will be held in the Church. All students that are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation are expected to attend with a parent.
Condolences
Our deepest condolences are extended to Maree Ranhan and her family on the passing of her father recently. Please keep Maree's family in your thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.
Senior Sausage Sizzle
Our Year 6 "Mini Monbulkers" Social Justice group are working extremely hard to raise money for Social Justice projects.
On the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence our "Mini Monbulkers" did a superb job feeding St Paul's! With the support of Ms Paula and Ms Boyd they planned, cooked, distributed and enjoyed a magnificent sausage sizzle - what a fantastic effort.
The effort they went to was noticed by the Grogan family (Friends on the Hill Cafe). Brent and Kerry Grogan were so proud of our Year 6's that they donated the cost of the sausages. We are extremely grateful for this generosity! The funds raised will go to the building of a library in Pakistan. Thank you to everyone involved.
Boys Lighthouse
Over the years St Paul’s has been invited by St. Joseph’s College, Ferntree Gully to work collaboratively with them in providing opportunities in boy’s education through ‘The Lighthouse Literacy Program’. This program involves selected Year 5 boys working with Year 10 students on a task that aims to develop and extend the boy’s literacy skills. This invitation has once again been extended to St Paul’s in 2022, and next week we begin the Boys Lighthouse program.
Neighbouring Fence Replacement
Families might have noticed that the paling/timber fence, up behind the oval adjacent to our next-door neighbour on Mt Pleasant Rd, has a slight lean over. This fence will be replaced. The work will start this Monday 4 April and should conclude by Friday 8 April.
Our Parents and Friends Committee is BACK!
It was very exciting to meet 'online' with existing Parents and Friends (P&F) Committee members, as well as some fresh faces last Monday evening. We had a very energetic and positive meeting, and we are all keen to re-establish the St Paul's P&F by getting our community activities up and running again.
It was terrific to have Carla, Kim, Tameka, Tasha and Tamara join me to discuss established events and activities, as well as provide ideas for new activities and events. We are so keen that we are meeting online again this Tuesday evening!
It is NEVER too late to join the P&F Committee. If you would like to log in to our meeting this Tuesday evening at 7:30pm please email me and I will send you the Zoom link.
Whole School Sports Day
Our Whole School Sports Day will be held tomorrow! Students will need to apply sunscreen before school, and we ask that students bring sunscreen with them to re-apply throughout the day. Students can wear coloured sports tops, socks and hair ribbons to represent their ’house’ if they wish. Hair is not to be sprayed in house colours, thanks.
Students will assemble on the oval at 9:15am, and events will begin shortly after, at approximately 9.30am. The Whole School Sports Day is scheduled to finish at approximately 1:30pm.
We are still working with Covid restrictions and we respectfully inform our parents that in order to stay and watch our Whole School Sports Day, we will need to site vaccination certificates off your phone or in hard copy.
SAUSAGE SIZZLE: An Operoo eForm was sent home last week for families to order a sausage in bread at the conclusion of our Sports Day. The eForm closed on the weekend so that we could place the order at Woolworths. We received orders for 135 sausages, but we have ordered plenty more just in case anyone missed their opportunity to order. Huge thanks to Tameka and her team of volunteers for organising our sausage sizzle.
Students will need their fruit, snacks, drink bottles (filled) and their lunch if they didn't order a sausage, or a sausage is not enough to fill them.
We are looking forward to a great day!
