2022 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 1, Week 8
From the Principal
Dear Families,
The celebration of the Sacraments at Primary School - Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation - have always been a major highlight in each families’ path of nurturing their child’s faith and participation in the Catholic Church. Yet what must not be forgotten is the core component, the Mass, as it is within this celebration that our Sacraments are received and it can be very special to share these times with the wider parish community. The celebration of a Sacrament generates for many parents and older siblings, happy memories of the major steps they took in their faith
formation. Currently, there are many families in our school preparing for, and receiving, Sacrament celebrations, not only Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation, but also Baptism. It is a beautiful experience to be able to celebrate our children in this way and mark these milestones with them, and we look forward to sharing the journey with these students this year.
World Maths Day: Mathletics
Australian educational resource developer, 3P Learning, founded World Maths Day in 2007. 3P Learning is the creator of Mathletics. Mathletics is used by 4 million students worldwide as we strive for excellence in mathematics.
On World Maths Day we held our Gold Coin Trail, and we are extremely grateful to our community for getting behind this initiative. The Gold Coin Trail was a fantastic maths activity, and it also had a much wider, global purpose. Please see the note below from our senior students.

News from the Year 4/5/6 students…
The Great St Paul’s Gold Coin Trail!
World Maths Day started with an exciting buzz in the air at St Paul's. Everyone was waiting for the announcement to start lining up their gold coins, to determine which class had the longest gold coin trail. From the 21st to the 23rd of March everyone brought in gold coins to help their class create the longest trail possible and win 15 minutes extra recess or free time. All classes met in the hall and laid their coins out in straight lines which were measured and recorded. Students were kept in suspense before the announcement was made that 1/2 came 5th with 2.62m, 2/3 came 4th with 3.35m, Preps were 3rd with 3.37m, 5/6 was 2nd with 5.17m and 4/5 came 1st with 6.02m. Congratulations to 4/5 for having the longest gold coin trail, but we thank the whole St Paul”s community for supporting us with our fundraising. The $1,031 that we raised will go towards the library that the 4/5/6s are building at the Real School and Collage in Tramri, Pakistan.
Whole School Sports Day
Our Whole School Sports Day will be held next Friday 1 April. Mrs Curwood is busily preparing the program for the day. To keep in line with School Sport Victoria policy and procedure children will compete in their age groups.
As communicated via Operoo, there will be a sausage in bread for each student provided by the P&F. Students will still need snacks, and extra lunch if a sausage doesn't fill them up! Please respond to the Operoo eForm by the end of the day tomorrow so that we can place the order for next week.
Students will need to apply sunscreen before school, and we ask that students bring sunscreen with them to re-apply throughout the day. Students can wear coloured sports tops, socks and hair ribbons to represent their ’house’ if they wish. Hair is not to be sprayed in house colours, thanks. Students will assemble on the oval at 9:15am, and events will begin shortly after, at approximately 9.30am. The Whole School Sports Day is scheduled to finish at approximately 1:30pm.
We are still working with Covid restrictions and we respectfully inform our parents that in order to stay and watch our Whole School Sports Day, we will need to site vaccination certificates off your phone or in hard copy.
We are looking forward to a great day next Friday!
Last Friday 18 March we recognised the National Day of Action Against Bullying and our students discussed how we can build a culture of kindness. The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is a day for schools, students and the community to say Bullying. No Way! We thank all teachers for recognising the day. Our "Donut Worry, Be Kind" display in the library looks fantastic! Our classes implemented some great ideas for the day. In classrooms, students talked about how they can 'sprinkle kindness'. Teachers also facilitated cyber etiquette lessons - it was fantastic to see explicit lessons on "Kindness".
The other thing that happened, for me, on The National Day of Action Against Bullying was quite an inspirational experience. I was on yard duty and I was chatting with the students about how their day was going. One of our students in Year 2 was talking about his day, and we were standing in our beautiful playground, and I said, "So you have had a great day then" and the response that came blew me away:
"Mr Watt... you can't put a price on a good day!"
No... you definitely can not put a price on a good day!
Yours sincerely,
Michael Watt
