2021 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 3, Week 5
From the Principal
Dear Families,
Last Sunday was the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Mary MacKillop was a pioneer of the early Church in Australia and she has been declared a Saint by the Catholic Church. Together with the Reverend Julian Tenison Woods, she founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, a congregation of religious sisters that established a number of schools and welfare institutions throughout Australasia, with an emphasis on education for the rural poor.
Some of Mary MacKillop’s quotes to reflect on are:
- “Never see a need without doing something about it.”
- “Find happiness in making others happy.”
- “We must teach more by example than by word.”
- “Believe in the whisperings of God to your own heart.”
- “Be eager in your desires but humbly patient in their accomplishment.”
- “Remember we are all but travellers here.”

Remote and Flexible Learning Continues
As Remote and Flexible Learning continues we thank our students for once again demonstrating the school value of ‘responsibility’. We know that this is not easy or even ‘normal’ to be learning like this and we know that they want to be at school learning with their friends. The teachers are extremely impressed with the effort our students and parents are going to in order to continue learning.
Learning Pack Collection, for Monday 16 - Thursday 19 August, will occur from 2:00pm - 3:00pm this Friday 13 August.
As per previous lockdowns, Learning Grids will be uploaded to our Remote Learning Site on Sunday and published in the afternoon for families. We will notify you via email and SZApp when the learning is published.
Principal's Pop Quiz!
"Principal's Pop Quiz" will involve a Prep-3 Kahoot quiz, and a Year 4-6 Kahoot quiz, at separate times on Friday 13 August (today!). Both of the "Principal's Pop Quiz" sessions will be hosted via Google Meet - stpquiz
I hope to see as many of our students as possible!
- Prep-3 will be at 12:00pm
- Year 4-6 will be at 12:45pm
The quiz will be played using the KAHOOT! application. KAHOOT! can be downloaded from the android or apple app store. Alternatively, players can open https://kahoot.it on their browser.
The Principal's Pop Quiz can be played on one Chromebook or iPad, but it is easier if a second device is available.
For instance, I suggest having Google Meet open on a school Chromebook or iPad, and then maybe mum/dad have their phone with Kahoot! open either via the app or browser, in order to answer the questions.
Good luck to all!
ATTENTION: Student Representative Council SRC Google Meet - 2:00pm Tuesday 17 August.

SRC students please note this on your home calendars!

School Advisory Council
Our School Advisory Council met recently (on Zoom) and it was once again a most productive and positive meeting. Our Deputy Principal, Stephenie Peels, and myself, delivered reports for discussion. Our Wellbeing Leader, Sarah Kleverkamp, then gave a detailed presentation on the Respectful Relationships Program.
Farewell Cook Family
This week, Will Cook transferred to another school. We wish Will all the best at his new school. We wish to thank Jacqui for the tremendous amount of work she has done over her time here. Jacqui has spent many years as President of our Parents and Friends Association. She has lead the organisation of Country Fairs in the past (2015 and 2017 just to name a couple!), as well as the P&F Association. We wish Jacqui, Rob and Will all the best in the future.
Prayer Gathering Assembly
This Monday at 2:10pm we will hold our next Prayer Gathering Assembly online, via Google Meet. For the last few weeks we have had a Prayer Gathering each Monday because we have been 'catching up' from previous lockdowns.
Parents that wish to log in can use their child's Google login, open Google Meet and enter the code stpassembly. The Prayer Gathering Assembly will be lead by 4/5A. We hope you can join us!
Kind regards,
Michael Watt

Student Wellbeing
Battling Lockdown Fatigue: Three Strategies to Bolster our Resilience
This article, written by Tom Brunzell from Berry Street, is well worth a read.
There has been so much attention put on wellbeing over the past year through media and advertising, but what is important? Yes, we have all spent time on 'gratitude' and 'worries', but let's not forget our developmental stages of wellbeing. How do we problem solve, manage emotions, be part of respectful relationships, and so on? Our children are riding an unpredictable emotional rollercoaster, along with the adults in their lives. It is difficult for adults to navigate the ups and downs, but our children are having to experience their social and emotional learning in 'real life' rather than through 'role playing in the classroom'. Parents are their children's first, and most important educators! If you are in any need of support, please reach out to Paula Hogan, Sarah Kleverkamp or any of our amazing staff members.

Prep Families - School Entry Health Questionaire
A reminder to Prep parents that the School Entry Health Questionnaire is due back at school today. If at all possible, could you please return the completed Questionnaire to school this afternoon when collecting your child's Learning Pack for next week. You can either give it to your child's class teacher, leave it in your child's locker or drop it in to the school office. If you do not wish for your child to participate, could you please tick the no consent box and sign on page 5 before returning the form to school. Thank you.
