St Paul's Newsletter: Thursday 24 June, 2021
2021 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 2, Week 10
From the Principal
School Concludes at 1:00pm today
Dear Families,
It's hard to believe that the school year is almost half over. Our students have worked incredibly hard these past 2 terms and each and every one of them should be congratulated on their achievements. The teaching staff thoroughly analysed student data and presented families with the Semester 1 reports, which were sent home last Monday. Numerous hours are spent on each child’s report to ensure that parents are provided with a commonsense summary that describes what children have achieved against the Victorian Curriculum standards. The information contained within your child’s report is based on evidence from teachers’ assessment records and professional judgements against these standards. The students have continued to learn, and be supported by their teachers and parents, right throughout this term's lockdown and also the storms that occurred, and we commend them on their efforts.
The Healing Journey
This term has been challenging on so many levels. You may be looking for resources to support conversations about disasters with our children. If you are looking for resources, the Student Wellbeing Unit at MACS have assisted us by putting together a package of readings with advice on dealing with our recent experiences. The resources are stored in a folder on our Google Drive.
Please CLICK HERE to open the folder.
4:00pm Today - Trauma Recovery with Dr Rob Gordon
Earlier this week all families were sent a flyer for today's session on Trauma Recovery with Dr Rob Gordon. This session, for school staff, parents, and the school community, aims to:
- increase understanding of prolonged stress on the health and wellbeing of school communities and school staff
- explore ways to support yourself and others during this time
- understand the impact on your students/children, including how they may present in the school environment and at home
- learn practical ways to support children and families.
This session will give you a chance to talk with Dr Rob Gordon about challenges you may be experiencing with recent storms and weather events, ask questions and learn from the experience of others. Please tap or click on the flyer below for more information and details on logging into the session.
3 Way Conferences
3 Way Conferences (Parent/Teacher Interviews) will be held this afternoon and into the evening. These conferences are held at this time of year to enable teachers to summarise your child’s progress during the first half of the year, and give parents a chance to clarify any wonderings you may have about your child's learning.
Please remember: Parents need to sign in to Google as a St Paul’s student.
Prior to the time of your conference: You need your Google Meet code - Your code is "stp" + your child's family name. For example, if your child's name is Tim Smith, your Google Meet code is stpsmith.
Please ensure you have one of your children's St Paul's Google login with you:
- Google Meet STEP 1: Log in to Google and enter your child’s St Paul’s email as the username. Then, enter their password.
- Google Meet STEP 2: Please go to the following website: meet.google.com
- Google Meet STEP 3: Click "Enter a code or nickname" and enter your family code
- Google Meet STEP 4: If you enter the code, and it does not allow you to access the Google Meet, it might mean the teacher is finishing off the previous conference. Please be patient, and try again after 30-60 seconds.
Future Stars
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Jo McIntosh accompanied our Year 5 students to Mount Lilydale Mercy College for an excursion that focuses on the transition to secondary school. We thank our Year 5's for representing our school with pride.

Around the Classes
As we finish Term 2 and get ready for the winter school holidays, it's a great time to showcase some of the great learning that has taken place in our classrooms this term.
Our P/1 students have shared their special places and learnt about the special places of other people this term. They have made welcome wreaths using gum leaves to hang on their door to welcome people to their Special Place, which look fantastic!
Our Year 2/3 class finished the term by bringing all of their learning together around how the way we live has changed between the past and now, to create models of scenes from the past. Their creations look wonderful and they all look very engaged in this hands on task.
Finally, our Year 4/5/6 classes have done a fantastic job with their goldfields models, designed to demonstrate what they have learnt about life on the goldfields as part of their history unit of work. Looks like dirty but satisfying work!
