2024 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 4, Week 6
From the Principal
Good afternoon families,
I hope this newsletter finds you all doing exceptionally well. We had a new member to our community last week with Zach H getting a little brother, Hugo. Congratulations to Zach, Madison, Jessica and Brendan on their new arrival.
Coming up, we have the AGM for our School Advisory Council (SAC) on Wednesday, 27 November at 7.00 pm. We are inviting new families to join next year as this will be the last year for 3 of our members who finish their journey at St Paul’s. I would like to invite you all to the meeting. If you are interested in joining the SAC, please let me know ASAP. The commitment is a meeting twice a term (usually week 2 & 8) on a Wednesday night.
Last Monday I had the privilege of taking Sienna, Joep, Esther and Liam to the Remembrance Day service at the Monbulk RSL. The students got to look around the RSL Club afterwards, examining the various pieces of history it holds, and they also had the opportunity to meet a Vietnam veteran. At school it was the focus of our Prayer Gathering and the students stopped for a minute silence at 11.00am.
Tomorrow our Year 6 students will be at St Joseph’s Church in Emerald for their Retreat Day, reflecting on their time at St Paul’s, and creating reflections to be shared during their graduation. Their day finishes tomorrow at 1pm. This is the theme for my prayer today.
Tomorrow we also have the funeral for Mim Van Haaster. The funeral is at 11.30am in the St Paul's church. The mourners will be parking on the oval and there will be a wake afterwards in the school hall. Please be mindful of these spaces, especially after school tomorrow.
This is the last week to download a copy of the 2025 School Production, 'Ruby and the Marvellously Magical Music Cube'. You will need your child's Google login to access this video. I have had some requests from non-student accounts and unfortunately we can’t accommodate that. If your child is unsure of his or her details, please email me and I will share this information.
Next week we have our Colour Run on Monday organised by Miss Paula and the Mini Monbulkers. They would love to receive any sponsorship donations, either in cash or via CDF pay. The students are asked to wear a white T-shirt and bring a change of clothes for afterwards. To coincide with the Colour Run, our Parents and Friends have organised a sausage sizzle lunch, with the money from the lunch going towards supporting the Country Fair in March next year. Families are welcome to come and watch the run but we ask that you sign in at the office on arrival.
We also have Ryan Evans coming out to run a Brickulum incursion for each of the students with a STEM focus. This is next Thursday and the excitement is already building in the classrooms.
A reminder to all families that any student coming to school with a mobile phone or a smartwatch needs to drop these items in at the school office at the beginning of the day and collect them after school, as per our policies. We appreciate your support with this.
Earlier today our 2025 School Fees Structure information was sent to families with returning students via Operoo. We ask that you please read through the information provided and respond to the form as soon as you are able. If you have any concerns or did not receive the information, please let me know.
As always, if there is any way that the school can support your family, please reach out. I hope you have a great week and look forward to seeing many of you on Monday afternoon at the Colour Run.
Thanks
Nick

World Diabetes Day
Today is World Diabetes Day, a day to recognise those who have diabetes. Today a group of students from 5/6s are going to all the classes to talk about diabetes, explain what it is, and show how it affects people with it. Everyone has been asked to wear a splash of blue, and everyone has done great.
We want to thank all the people who have taken part in making this event happen.
Please remember to bring a pair of sunglasses or goggles as you need eye protection for the Colour Run, Monday next week.

Student Wellbeing
World Diabetes Day
A group of senior students have organised a special day to build awareness around Diabetes.
World Diabetes Day is held on Thursday 14 November. Students are asked to wear a 'touch of blue'- ribbons, zinc, socks, wig, hat, etc. Full school uniform is still expected to be worn.
Students will listen to a talk from some senior students and participate in colouring and crafts on the day. This is not a fundraising event, but a day to raise awareness and understanding.
Racism
Students at St Paul's Primary participate in many activities throughout the year which explore inclusion and diversity, in conjunction with our value of RESPECT. This week we focus explictly on Racism. Students will take part in activities from Racism No Way. Please take a look at the website for further information so you can share in conversations with your family.

Parents & Friends - COUNTRY FAIR NEWS
Hi Families, this is your 2025 Country Fair team here!
Thank you for taking the time to read our weekly updates regarding the upcoming Country Fair in March next year.
As many of you will remember the team in 2023 did an amazing job organising a very successful Fair day and much needed funds for our school.
Though the lead up was such a busy time for them as a team, and for us as parents, having to bring in all that was needed in preparation for the big day. So, this year we are hoping to raise some $ in advance to purchase what we need for the stalls instead of asking parents to send the items in e.g. chocolate blocks, fizzy drinks, mystery jars etc, which we are hoping will take the pressure off parents at the start of next year.
So our first FREE DRESS day will be held next week on Friday 1 November for a $2 donation, with the money raised used to purchase stall items.
Also, we are seeking sponsors for the event to help contribute to the costs of the rides (see flyer below or email sent out last week). If interested, please contact Bec Magnay: bwiering_15@hotmail.com
Thank you,
2025 Country Fair Team
Child Safe Standards: Ministerial Order 1359
St Paul's Primary School is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people, and their families. We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.
Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students. We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments. We also take proactive steps to identify and manage any risk of harm to students in our school. When child safety concerns are raised or identified, we treat these seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly.
The original Child Safe Standards were implemented in Victoria during 2016. They were developed in response to The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse (2013 - 2017). In 2019 Victoria agreed to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Schools are one example of a Child Safe Organisation.
There are eleven Child Safe Standards:
Child Safe Standard 1 – Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 – Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 – People working with children and young people are suitable and
supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 – Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Child Safe Standard 10 – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
Child Safe Standard 11 – Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.
MACS provides Catholic schools with templates for the required documentation which we are required to adapt to reflect our school community whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met. Below are 3 key documents that we continue to review in light of the new standards:
