2024 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 4, Week 2
From the Principal
Good afternoon families,
I hope that you are enjoying all of the wonders of spring and that those of us who are allergy sufferers are okay. I was in a meeting yesterday and from a risk assessment approach, they suggested that we reach out to families and remind them that Asthma is a more significant risk at this time of year with allergies and Asthma Thunderstorms. So this is a timely reminder to ensure that all medication, plans and equipment held at school for your children are up to date in the office.
St Paul’s is excited to announce that the Biennial Country Fair will take place on Saturday 15 March 2025. We have a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who are organising this event. This is our major fundraiser and importantly, also a community event where we all come together. There will be more correspondence across the next few weeks, but one of the goals is to spread the impact on families over time rather than a mad Term 1, so there will be some free dress days coming up and requests for donations. There will also be a letter outlining sponsorship opportunities for families within our community who may have or be employed by businesses willing to provide support. Finally, if you have any time to donate, can you please reach out to Bec Magnay (Carter and Lacey’s mum) or contact the school office.
I would like to thank the parents who have volunteered their time tonight to make our disco a success. I would also like to thank our volunteers who have committed to the Working Bee and Emerald BBQ in the next week. If you would like to lend a hand, please speak with Helen. The support provided by the volunteers at St Paul’s in a variety of roles is something we are extremely grateful for.
As we continue to plan for 2025, I am excited to inform you that our class structures for next year are as follows: Prep, Year 1/2, Year 1/2, Year 3/4, Year 4/5 and Year 5/6. I now ask that if you have any requests for the educational needs of your child, can you please email me at nfrederiksen@spmonbulk.catholic.edu.au by Friday 1 November 2025. Although unable to provide any guarantees, where possible, we will endeavour to accommodate appropriate requests. Finally, I am looking forward to meeting with our 2025 Prep parents next Wednesday night for our Prep Information Night.
This week we released the link to the video recording of the 2024 School Production of 'Ruby and the Marvellously Magical Music Cube'. You will need your child's Google login to access this video. I have had some requests from non-student accounts, and unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate those requests. If your child is unsure of his or her log in details, please email me and I will provide this information to you.
We love to hear about the success of our past students: Mater Christi College has announced its student leaders for 2025. We congratulate the following past St Paul's students on their achievements: College Captain - Annabella Tyquin; Wellbeing & Human Relationship Leader - Bridie McDermott; Environment & Sustainability Leader - Jewel McDermott. If you hear about any other success stories, please let us know.
I hope you all have a great week ahead.
Thanks
Nick

Day for Daniel
Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. The Daniel Morcombe Foundation provides personal child safety education to children and young people to prevent abuse and promote lifelong health and wellbeing.
St Paul's will acknowledge the day next Friday 25 October, by doing activities with students around safety and wearing a touch of red. We ask students and staff to wear A TOUCH OF RED (ribbon, socks or sweatband). Full normal school uniform is expected on the day.

Child Safe Standards: Ministerial Order 1359
St Paul's Primary School is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people, and their families. We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.
Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students. We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments. We also take proactive steps to identify and manage any risk of harm to students in our school. When child safety concerns are raised or identified, we treat these seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly.
The original Child Safe Standards were implemented in Victoria during 2016. They were developed in response to The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse (2013 - 2017). In 2019 Victoria agreed to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Schools are one example of a Child Safe Organisation.
There are eleven Child Safe Standards:
Child Safe Standard 1 – Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 – Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 – People working with children and young people are suitable and
supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 – Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Child Safe Standard 10 – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
Child Safe Standard 11 – Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.
MACS provides Catholic schools with templates for the required documentation which we are required to adapt to reflect our school community whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met. Below are 3 key documents that we continue to review in light of the new standards:
