2024 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 4, Week 1
From the Principal
Welcome back to all our families for Term 4. I would also like to welcome Ted (Prep) and Ezra (Year 2) and their family to St Paul’s. It is always nice to see everyone back healthy and with a smile, and it sounded like there were some awesome adventures happening during the holidays.
Thank you to all our families who came to Burrinja to see our performance of Ruby and the Marvellously Magic Music Cube. It was sensational to see the growth of all the students in confidence, musical ability and drama. This was done with such a smile on the face, and the sense of achievement from everyone was great. This all came together through the creativity, leadership and vision of Mrs Teresa Fraraccio, for whom I am extremely grateful. As always, as we continue to grow and improve, I would appreciate any feedback that can be given through the office, myself or our SAC members. Finally, an email with a link to the performance video will be sent free of charge in the coming days. This will come through each family’s email address, with instructions. Again, thank you to everyone for all the support of our performing arts program.
We hit the ground running in Term 4 with Zooper Doopers beginning to be sold from this Friday. Next Thursday we have our School Disco with the Juniors 4.30 - 5.30pm and Seniors 6.00pm - 7.30 pm. The following week we have our Hot Lunch & Sushi Day on Thursday 24 October. CDF pay has been set up for all of these events with further information provided in the 'From the Office' section below.
Just a reminder that in accordance with our Sunsmart Policy, now that it is Term 4 all students are required to wear hats when outside. If you have lost or need to replace hats, please visit the new Spartan School World store in Bayswater (details below) or place your order online.
Also, on Thursday 24 October we have our last Working Bee for this year, followed by our final Emerald BBQ for the year on Saturday 26 October. Families that have volunteered for these events will receive an email, but as always, everyone is welcome.
On Wednesday 23 October, we begin the orientation process for our 2025 Prep families with our Prep Information Evening from 7pm. More details will be provided to those families in the near future.
For 2025, if you know your family circumstances are changing concerning your child’s enrolment at St Paul’s, please inform the office, as being a little school it does impact our planning for 2025.
Advance Notice:
- School Closure Day - Monday 4 November (Melbourne Cup Weekend)
- Whole School Swimming Program (Monbulk Aquatic Centre) - Wed 6- Fri 8 November
This is a reminder to families and students that when walking to and from school and being in uniform, students are representing St Paul’s. There have been some reports of inappropriate behaviour in our community that doesn’t live up to our value of ‘Respect’.
Please reach out if the school can help in any way, and I look forward to seeing many of you at Prayer Gathering on Monday.
Thanks
Nick

Child Safe Standards: Ministerial Order 1359
St Paul's Primary School is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people, and their families. We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.
Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students. We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments. We also take proactive steps to identify and manage any risk of harm to students in our school. When child safety concerns are raised or identified, we treat these seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly.
The original Child Safe Standards were implemented in Victoria during 2016. They were developed in response to The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse (2013 - 2017). In 2019 Victoria agreed to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Schools are one example of a Child Safe Organisation.
There are eleven Child Safe Standards:
Child Safe Standard 1 – Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 – Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 – People working with children and young people are suitable and
supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 – Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Child Safe Standard 10 – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
Child Safe Standard 11 – Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.
MACS provides Catholic schools with templates for the required documentation which we are required to adapt to reflect our school community whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met. Below are 3 key documents that we continue to review in light of the new standards:
