2024 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 3, Week 3
From the Principal
Good afternoon everyone,
I hope that this finds you all well and that you are not too bleary-eyed from watching the Olympics! I find it amazing how it just keeps sucking you in with ‘one more run’ or ‘till half time’. For me, it has also been great that we have sat down as a family and watched it, with my Grace and George mimicking the sports. I do see an AAMI claim coming up, especially when George watches the hammer throw, just hoping it's not the TV that gets damaged. Next Thursday, we will celebrate the Olympics as a school having an Olympics Day, starting with an Opening Ceremony in the morning and activities outside in the beautiful sunshine that will present itself. You are welcome to come and cheer along the children throughout the day, just please sign in at the office.
Continuing on with the sporting theme, congratulations to our St Paul's Mixed Netball team who competed yesterday at the Knox Regional Netball Centre, where they successfully won the day, moving through to the Regional Finals in a fortnight. As I type, we also have our mixed soccer team competing in the district soccer day at the Monbulk Soccer Club, and hopefully, we will be able to share their successes next week.
Thank you to the families who have filled out the Operoo car park form. We are at approximately 80% of replies. If you are not getting notified of a waiting Operoo, please reach out to Helen. I can see a subtle difference in how the car park is running, which I am grateful for, thank you.
Next Wednesday, we will celebrate the Feast of Mary MacKillop at 10:15am in the church, to which everyone is invited. The following Wednesday, 14 August, we will be celebrating Grandparents & Special Persons Day, followed by the Assumption Mass. More details to follow in next week's newsletter.
Wednesday 7 August we have our second Prep Taster Day, which Isabella Lepore will lead with an Italian theme. Please keep letting friends and families know to come and explore our beautiful school. It is exciting that Letters of Offer for our 2025 Prep students will be going out early next week, but we are happy to keep showing people around and taking enrolments.
Mrs Teresa Fraraccio shared an Operoo form detailing information regarding our performance of ‘Ruby and the Marvellously Magical Music Cube’ on Thursday, 19th September. This includes details of dress rehearsal and performance, along with permission to attend both. If you can please return this ASAP it helps with planning. Each of the classes will be sharing information on costumes and practising. We hope information on ticket sales will be released in the near future. It is fantastic listening to the singing and music coming from the classes on a Tuesday.
Thank you for reading this week's newsletter. I look forward to seeing many of you at mass or our Olympics Day.
Thanks,
Nick

Child Safe Standards: Ministerial Order 1359
St Paul's Primary School is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people, and their families. We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.
Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students. We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments. We also take proactive steps to identify and manage any risk of harm to students in our school. When child safety concerns are raised or identified, we treat these seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly.
The original Child Safe Standards were implemented in Victoria during 2016. They were developed in response to The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse (2013 - 2017). In 2019 Victoria agreed to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Schools are one example of a Child Safe Organisation.
There are eleven Child Safe Standards:
Child Safe Standard 1 – Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 – Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 – People working with children and young people are suitable and
supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 – Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Child Safe Standard 10 – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
Child Safe Standard 11 – Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.
MACS provides Catholic schools with templates for the required documentation which we are required to adapt to reflect our school community whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met. Below are 3 key documents that we continue to review in light of the new standards:
