2024 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 2, Week 10
From the Principal
Hello everyone,
I hope that this finds you well. I know that there is a lot of illness floating around the community at the moment. I only need to walk into some of the classes to see this. I also know that some of these coughs and colds are lingering for longer than usual. There is always a fine balance between sending and not sending your child to school. If you think that they might be contagious, please keep them at home. I say this also acknowledging the importance of the students being at school learning, so we trust your judgement. If you are unsure, please reach out, and remember to please report any absences to the school office.
Last Tuesday night I had the privilege of being at the Monbulk/Bendigo Community Bank 'Tokens of Appreciation' night. On behalf of the school, I am grateful for the donation from the bank, which will go towards learning equipment. It amazed me that the Bank has now donated over $1,000,000 to different organisations in Monbulk and surrounds. It was great to meet a wide range of ‘Monbulkians’ and I learnt that there is a table tennis club every Friday night in the Hub.
Tomorrow night the school reports will be sent home via the nForma Parent Portal. It is important that your email address is up to date so you can access the portal. If you are unsure, please contact the office. To support the reports, all your child/children’s continuous assessments will be uploaded to Seesaw by Tuesday. This will be followed by 3-way conversations on Wednesday. This is to be booked through Operoo. It is expected that the children are there to be able to discuss their wonderful learning for Semester One. If you are unable to attend, please reply in Operoo so your child’s classroom teacher can reach out to you.
Thanks to the families that have responded to the Country Fair Operoo form. If you haven’t had a chance to fill it in, can you please do so at your earliest convenience. There will be another Operoo form scheduled for the last week of the School Holidays requesting acknowledgement of our car park rules as suggested by the School Advisory Council.
It was awesome to see many crazy socks today, which were colourful, some interesting patterns and sometimes looked like people needed help dressing themselves this morning because there were plenty of odd socks, or maybe that is just the staff? Thanks to the Mini Monbulkers for organising this event and collecting donated winter woollies to support our local community.
Next week is a busy week with a Taster Day at Mount Lilydale College, Prayer Gathering (2.10 pm Monday), District Sport for the school's senior students (Tuesday), our St Paul’s Feast Day mass at 11.45am Wednesday, and an early closure (1.00 pm) for the 3-way conversations on Wednesday. I think, most importantly for the whole school community, holidays begin next Friday at the usual time of 3.00 pm, giving us all a chance to rest up and re-energise for Term 3.
I hope that you all have a great week ahead, I’m looking forward to seeing the community at mass and 3-way conversations.
Thanks
Nick

Child Safe Standards: Ministerial Order 1359
St Paul's Primary School is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people, and their families. We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.
Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students. We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments. We also take proactive steps to identify and manage any risk of harm to students in our school. When child safety concerns are raised or identified, we treat these seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly.
The original Child Safe Standards were implemented in Victoria during 2016. They were developed in response to The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse (2013 - 2017). In 2019 Victoria agreed to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Schools are one example of a Child Safe Organisation.
There are eleven Child Safe Standards:
Child Safe Standard 1 – Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 – Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 – People working with children and young people are suitable and
supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 – Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Child Safe Standard 10 – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
Child Safe Standard 11 – Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.
MACS provides Catholic schools with templates for the required documentation which we are required to adapt to reflect our school community whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met. Below are 3 key documents that we continue to review in light of the new standards:
