St Paul's Newsletter: Friday 26 April 2024
2024 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 2, Week 2
From the Principal
Good afternoon, families.
I hope that you have had a great week and you got some time to reflect yesterday for ANZAC Day. I know some of you are taking the opportunity to have a longer weekend. This becomes a timely reminder to communicate absences to the teachers. For all unexplained absences, you will receive a text message.
Next Monday at our Prayer Gathering, we will commemorate ANZAC Day. Weather pending, this will be around the Flag Pole near the hall at 2.10 pm. Yesterday I had the privilege of leading approximately 25 students for Monbulk’s ANZAC Day service. It began with a march down the street to the RSL for the service. Seb and Siena laid a wreath in memory of our soldiers. Each of the students represented the school beautifully.
Following on from representing the school beautifully, I was on camp with our 5/6 students earlier this week. The students were terrific. The feedback from the activity providers was sensational, with us receiving more than once, ‘This is the best group we’ve had this year!’
A highlight for me was watching each of the students challenge themselves in the waves down at the beach. Initially, there was some anxiety, but watching the growth within the session, the waves caught, and the smiles were awesome. We have a new section in the newsletter, where each week, there will be student's voice. This week, Olivia and Ester will be discussing camp.
Next week, we will have the first of our Prep Taster days. If you have any children in kindergarten or 3-year-old kindergarten or know of family and friends, I invite you to bring them along. This will be Thursday 2nd May at 9.30 am. It is also a good reminder to get the enrollment forms of any siblings into the office if they are attending St Paul's next year.
From next week, all students will need to be in full winter uniform. If you have any issues with this, please reach out to me or your classroom teacher. Our previous supplier, RHUniforms has been taken over by Spartan School World. In the short term, there will be no difference in supply or process. Going forward, there is an option of moving the ‘shop’ to Bayswater, which will be better for our families.
Next Wednesday, we have our Cross-Country day. Mrs Curwood has done a great job organising this for the first time. Thanks to the families that have volunteered to help out with marshalling during the day.
Coming up, we have our school photo day on Wednesday, 8th May. This will be a full winter uniform day. We hope that the photos will be completed in the morning session if you need to book appointments that day.
The following Friday is our Mother’s Day breakfast and stall. Thanks to Parents and Friends for organising this day. Please see the information later in the newsletter.
We are fortunate to have Andrew Chinn come out and work with our students throughout Tuesday, May 14th. That evening, at 6:30 pm in the church, Andrew will lead a concert for all our families, and everyone is invited.
I hope that you have a great week ahead.
Thanks
Nick

Student Voice
This week the 5/6S class went to camp at Phillip Island. It was lots of fun and everyone in the class had a great time! We were accompanied by Mr Salan, Miss Boyd, Rick and Mr Frederiksen who made this a really fun experience for us all.
There were so many opportunities for us to take part in! Some of these activities were, The Penguin Parade, Surfing, A Maze‘N Things, Churchill Island Heritage Farm and much more! Everybody’s highlight was the surfing and boogey boarding at the beach.
We are all really grateful for the teachers and parents who made this a fun and memorable time for us!

Child Safe Standards: Ministerial Order 1359
St Paul's Primary School is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people, and their families. We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.
Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students. We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments. We also take proactive steps to identify and manage any risk of harm to students in our school. When child safety concerns are raised or identified, we treat these seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly.
The original Child Safe Standards were implemented in Victoria during 2016. They were developed in response to The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse (2013 - 2017). In 2019 Victoria agreed to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Schools are one example of a Child Safe Organisation.
There are eleven Child Safe Standards:
Child Safe Standard 1 – Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 – Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 – People working with children and young people are suitable and
supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 – Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Child Safe Standard 10 – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
Child Safe Standard 11 – Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.
MACS provides Catholic schools with templates for the required documentation which we are required to adapt to reflect our school community whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met. Below are 3 key documents that we continue to review in light of the new standards:
