2023 St Paul's Newsletter - Term 2, Week 4
From the Principal
Dear Families,
The following students will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation here at St Paul's at 12:00pm on Saturday:
Esther, Oscar, Clodagh, Sebastian, Zachary, Stella, Benji, Grace, Ryder, Liam, Katie, Thomas, Morgan, Jessica, Lola, Ella, Maya
These students have been prepared very well for this Sacrament by their teachers and families. With the support of their family, parish and school, these young people have made the decision to be initiated as full members of the Church community.
Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) that welcome a person into the community of believers in Jesus Christ – the Church. Confirmation is often referred to as the Sacrament of the Holy Spirit, where Confirmation strengthens and celebrates the presence of the Spirit in a person’s life.
As Catholics have already received the Holy Spirit in Baptism, Confirmation renews the Spirit’s presence in the individual so that they can live out their baptismal call to share God’s life with others in their own unique way.
Through their commitment to being part of a Catholic community and active in their faith, believers have the capacity to deepen their faith, discover their personal gifts and how to use them in this world, deepen an awareness of the Holy Spirit working in their lives and tap into the potential that is available to them.
This weekend we ask you to pray and show your support for our Confirmation candidates. The Very Reverend Fr Tony Kerin (Eastern Region Episcopal Vicar) will confirm the candidates.
It is the St Paul's Way!
I wish to wholeheartedly THANK our community for the response we received earlier this week when we put a call out for assistance with laying carpet. 10 families have offered assistance, which is AMAZING! Thank you so much.
Emerald Barbecue: Thank you!
We hosted last Saturday's Emerald BBQ and it was a huge success! We are most grateful to those families that were able to assist, THANK YOU: Munn (coordinator), Edwards, Zammit, Lacey, Bohun and Robb families.
Mother's Day Celebrations: Thank you!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the special ladies in our community for last Sunday. We had a very successful Mother’s Day Breakfast and Mother's Day Stall, that was greatly supported by parents and organised by our Parents and Friends Association. We thank ALL who supported the events, particularly the parents that set up and ran the stall, along with the team of parents and staff that cooked up the barbecue. I hope that you all had a restful day on Sunday.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Watt

Child Safe Standards: Ministerial Order 1359
The original Child Safe Standards were implemented in Victoria during 2016. They were developed in response to The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse (2013 - 2017). In 2019 Victoria agreed to adopt the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. Schools are one example of a Child Safe Organisation.
There are eleven Child Safe Standards:
Child Safe Standard 1 – Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 – Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 – Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 – Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 – Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 – People working with children and young people are suitable and
supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 – Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 – Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 – Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.
Child Safe Standard 10 – Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is regularly reviewed and improved.
Child Safe Standard 11 – Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.
MACS provides Catholic schools with templates for the required documentation which we are required to adapt to reflect our school community whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met. Below are 3 key documents that we continue to review in light of the new standards:
